“The true end of art is not to imitate a fixed material condition, but to represent a living emotion.”

Artist George Innes (1825-1894)

My artwork in oil and pastel explores the Lowcountry’s unique beauty and profound sense of place. Drawn to the crossing places where sky, land and water meet—where light touches marsh and tide—I use bold color, close observation and a deep love of nature to invite viewers to pause, reflect and reconnect with the natural world.

While rooted in the landscape of the Lowcountry, my work is less about a specific locale than about the emotional experience of nature’s beauty.

As a former journalist and editor, I know the power of an image to engage, inspire and evoke emotion. I approach each piece like a photojournalist—capturing a moment, then inviting the viewer into a story. I aim to translate experiences into images that evoke both immediacy and memory.

I have studied with noted artists in Maine, the Carolinas, and at the Providence Art Club—the second oldest art club in the United States—where I exhibited in shows that attracted artists and collectors from across New England. My work now appears in exhibitions in Beaufort, Hilton Head and Spring Island, South Carolina, where I teach oil painting.

I hold a B.S. in Journalism from Middle Tennessee State University and, under a pen name, am a published novelist.

Both writing and painting reflect my enduring interest in storytelling and capturing moments and emotions that otherwise pass unnoticed.
